Motorcycle Routes around Atlanta

Georgia is home to great routes for riders to enjoy. With scenic beauty in the mountains and coast, to the forests and lakes inland, you’ll find picturesque backdrops for amazing motorcycle rides.

Georgia’s Dragon – The Suches Loop

The Suches Loop is a premier route near Atlanta due to its pleasant ride with plenty of fun curves to keep things interesting. A great part of the Suches Loop is that riders can define the difficulty, scaling up or down based on the specific route they take. The scenery is spectacular, but we wouldn’t be talking about that if it weren’t the case! The Blue Ridge Mountains and Chattahoochee National Forest will spread out all around you, and autumn makes it all the better with changing leaves and breathtaking views.

Overall this is a challenging ride, with multiple sections that change things up. Georgia 19 is great with its 2 lanes up the mountain, allowing for easy passing as you climb elevation. 180 is much tougher on account of its narrow roads with countless blind turns and steep elevation changes. The multiple memorials on the side of the roads are a testament to the challenge that lies before you and a strict warning to ride within your abilities, for your safety and for the safety of those you share the road with.

US Hwy 17 – Darien to Cumberland Island

Travel south on US Highway 17 all the way down to Kingsland and then onto St. Marys and Cumberland Island. Highway 17 has a bunch of scenic views along its length, and Cumberland Island makes for a unique end-point. The coast has pristine maritime forests, undeveloped beaches, and wide marshes. Cumberland Island also contains four major historic districts and 87 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as the oldest known ceramics in North America and shell middens from early natives. The roads are in good condition and straight for the most part, so this route is well suited for those looking for calm riding without a lot of twists and turns.
